The Real Secret to In-N-Out Burger

Food University’s creator Rich Gore just visited one of his favorite guilty pleasures: In-N-Out Burger. If you’ve ever been there, you know how great it is. Their secret? Keeping it simple. There’s only four items on the In-N-Out menu: Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Double-Double and Fries. You can add an array of Coca-Cola beverages to your order as well as three shakes: vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. And that’s the menu in it’s entirety…at least we thought it was.

Turns out, there’s another secret to their success: a “secret menu.“ In-N-Out Burger has an extensive list of other items that many people don’t even know about. For instance, you can order a “Flying Dutchman, two beef patties and two slices of chesse–that’s it. Rumor has it, this burger was created for people to feed their dogs at the original In-N-Out burger. This one’s great for those who don’t need those extra carbs to their meal.

Want to kick your burger up a notch? Try it “Animal Style. This is a mustard-cooked beef patty with extra pickles, cheese, secret sauce and grilled onions diced up and mixed together before getting dumped on your burger–probably the most famous secret item on the menu.

The employees at In-N-Out Burgers will do just about anything to your order. Kids can get their burger cut in half, fries can be cooked “light” or “well-done” and drinks can be mixed. Try a “Lemon-Up” (half Lemonade, half 7-Up) with your Flying Dutchmen, or a “Tea-Aid”, In-N-Out’s version of the Arnold Palmer.

Watch as Eatocracy reveals the rest of In-N-Out’s “secret” menu here.

If you learn a little bit about food and we entertain you while we’re doing it, than we’re empowering you to go do it.”

Gore shares his excitement for the second leg of Food U’s 20 city tour that will be launching up again in March 2011. (Dates TBD) The success of the tour has helped launch Food U to a greater plateau. “We just signed a deal with a Hollywood production company to develop a reality a show,” Gore reveals. “Ultimately it will be consistent with our message and our band of culinary missionaries.” The reality show is still in the works, but visit our Facebook page for the latest updates.
